In order to lose weight, we need to be in a calorie deficit. This simply means that we need to burn more than what we eat.
When it comes to weight loss nutrition is critical. When people think healthy, the first meal that comes to mind is a salad.
So what do you do if you have a salad every day for lunch and are not losing weight?
Having a salad is a great option for lunch. However, there can be lots of hidden calories which can quickly add up to the same amount as a burger and chips!!
So when considering a lower calorie lunch, be aware of things like dressings, fillings and toppings.
Here is a perfect example.
Having a light lunch is great, but we need to be aware of what we eat for the rest of the day. If we are starving when we get home from work because we have had a pack of lettuce leaves for lunch, then the first thing we may do is reach for a bag of crisps or chocolate bar.
Try and balance out your meals throughout the day. Aim to eat some fruit, vegetables, healthy fats such as nuts or avocado, and protein with each meal. This will keep you fuller for longer and help stop the cravings
Try adding spinach, beetroot, tomatoes, peppers, pumpkin, carrots even apples. Have a low-calorie dressing like balsamic vinegar. Ensure you include a protein source like mixed beans, tofu, tuna, eggs or chicken.
Add a sprinkle of pumpkin or sunflower seeds to give it a great texture.
Overall salads are fantastic and can be really tasty and healthy.
Just be more aware of the hidden calories and be more mindful of what you consume for the rest of the day.
With health and happiness
